The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Environmental Stewardship Division and partners are using the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP) methodology to provide farmers with technical assistance for improving water quality in the River Raisin watershed, an area identified as a priority under the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative for the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.  The project is reaching farmers, providing one-on-one assistance to farmers, completing MAEAP verifications, and implementing conservation practices (e.g., filter strips, conservation tillage) that will reduce the amount of sediment and phosphorus that enters the waters of the River Raisin watershed and the western Lake Erie basin.
