Walpole Island First Nation received a grant to implement on-the-ground restoration activities as part of a comprehensive plan to restore park of Swan Lake Marsh, located in the St. Clair River Area of Concern.  Habitat at Swan Lake Marsh has been lost due to filling, draining, dredging, and bulk-heading for industrial, urban, agricultural, and navigational uses.  This project is repairing and maintaining the dike around the marsh and making access improvements.  Project outcomes include improved hydrological connectivity and fish access, enhanced habitat features that benefit wildlife and ecological functions, and increased conservation capacity for Walpole Island First Nation.  In addition, this project is addressing the Beneficial Use Impairment for Loss of Fish and Wildlife Habitat in the St. Clair River Area of Concern.
