The Nature Conservancy, along with Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, improved spawning habitat for the Lake Sturgeon within the historic spawning grounds of the St. Louis River estuary.  The project improved channel configuration, placed 3 in-stream habitat structures, and inproved quality and quantity of suitable spawning substrate immediate downstream of the Fond du Lac dam.  In total, more than 3.8 acres of river channel were enhanced, providing high quality spawning habitat over a much wider range of flow conditions than currently existed.
