Long Point marshes on Lake Erie in Ontario

The Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Foundation implemented two projects known as the Long Point Causeway Improvement Project and the Crown Marsh Rehabilitation Project. The first project included the installation of large and small culverts to restore aquatic connectivity between the Big Greek Marsh and Long Point Bay. This project restored this area to historical levels to improve water quality and ecosystem health. This work is reducing stilt loads in Long Point Bay and restoring fish access for spawning. This reopened fish passage to 224 acres of wetland. The second project restored and constructed pond and channels by creating a mosaic of open water areas in large, unbroken tracts of cattail and phragmities. This project increased marsh systems for species at risk.
