Reconnecting Sanborn Creek
Grant Recipient:

Grant Awarded:

$850,000

Lake Basin(s):

Michigan

Project Location(s):

Sanborn Creek in Lake County, Michigan

Conservation Resource Alliance will remediate the final four road-stream crossings on Sanborn Creek, finalizing the strategic plan to remove all fish passage barriers along the Creek. By removing the four barriers, the project will reconnect 14.6 miles of stream, 10 miles of which are upstream habitat, and reduce at least 12 tons of sediment from entering the Creek per year. Sanborn Creek is a key tributary to the Pere Marquette River and an important aquatic nursery for native brook trout and other aquatic species. By remediating all the barriers along the Creek, the project will restore natural stream function and result in complete passage by brook trout and other cold-water aquatic organisms throughout the entire length of Sanborn Creek.
