The Manistee, Pine, Little Manistee, and Pere Marquette river watersheds in northwest Michigan

Trout Unlimited, Inc. is working to replaceĀ five culverts and conduct seven in-stream habitat improvement projects in the Manistee, Pine, Little Manistee, and Pere Marquette rivers of northwestern Michigan. This work is improving connectivity and restoring coldwater stream habitat for brook trout, walleye, lake sturgeon and other fish. It will also help reduce flooding and damage caused by severe storm events. Selected projects will be used to demonstrate science-driven river restoration techniques for addressing problem culverts and the use of large woody material to improve instream habitat. All work is being monitored to demonstrate successes as well as provide information on lessons learned.
