The Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments conducted a habitat inventory on the Ottawa River to identify and prioritize habitat restoration opportunities in the region. A public meet was held for property owners and stakeholders. Twenty five people attended the meeting. Letters were sent to all riparian landowners to invite participation. Ten Areas of Interest were identified and permission was received to conduct studies on all Areas. Of the 10 Areas, 6 were considered and 4 were included in the final inventory. Copies of the final inventory were sent to potential implementers and presentations were made to local potential implementers. The inventory of sites has allowed cleanup programs to commence and address impacts from landfills and combined sewers. The inventory also guided habitat restoration in the region and benefit the biological resources of western Lake Erie.
