The County of Monroe converted 11 acres of mowed turf to native prairie vegetation, plus removed exotic invasive species from a native woodland (approximately 5 acres) and previously restored prairie (60 acres). The staff received extensive training in restoration and in fire management and acquired tools and equipment to conduct prescribed burns for the purpose of native habitat management. They also developed interpretive materials for county parks depicting natural and cultural history, land management practices, and native vegetation and wildlife. School groups and volunteer organizations have assisted in park improvement projects.
