The Grand Traverse Bay Watershed conducted a macrophyte bed survey in Grand Traverse Bay in summer 2009 to locate aquatic plant beds 10’x10’ or larger. Large beds in certain areas were marked with GPS coordinates and given a site number. Not all beds discovered throughout the Bay were given a site number – some were more difficult to map. Sediment and water samples were analyzed from three areas in the Bay – beneath locations of extensive macrophyte beds, in nearshore areas lacking macrophyte beds, and at outlets of major tributaries. A public education campaign was implemented to disseminate project results and provide general education to the public, including information on Botulism, invasive species, and Phosphorus input reduction.
