Little Traverse Bay Watershed Green Infrastructure Initiative (MI)
Grant Recipient:

Grant Awarded:

$115,594

Lake Basin(s):

Michigan

Project Location(s):

Little Traverse Bay Watershed, Petoskey, Emmet County, Michigan

Little Traverse Bay is one of the most pristine watersheds in Michigan, yet growing resident and tourist populations and a lack of municipal prioritization of measures to protect water quality above regulation establish the need for proactive investment to preserve the region’s high-quality aquatic habitat. Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council will work with partners to install rain gardens, green roofs and bioretention areas in high-profile settings to store and treat stormwater, catalyze adoption of green stormwater BMPs throughout the region, and preserve and protect water quality. Project activities will result in 575,000 gallons of stormwater storage capacity added annually and reduce harmful nonpoint source pollutant discharge into Little Traverse Bay.
