Save the Dunes Conservation Fund, Inc. restored 37 acres of riparian wetlands and woodlands and mesic/upland forest and savanna associated with Trail Creek Fen. Project objectives were to control invasive plants, restore native vegetation, and create a model for stewardship of rare coastal wetlands and tributaries that incorporates community-based stewardship and green-collar training events. Project activities included removal of invasive plants, collection and distribution of native seeds, propagation and planting of native plant plugs, prescribed burning, and monitoring of restoration areas. Some of the partners involved in the project included the La Porte County Soil and Water Conservation District, Michigan City Sanitary District, and the Porter County Convention, Recreation, and Visitor Commission.
