Bad River Watershed Association is replacing a perched culvert that is currently a barrier to fish passage in Fred’s Creek within the Marengo River basin. This work is being coordinated with the Town of Ashland, which is coordinating the replacement of two additional upstream culverts. When all three culverts are replaced, fish passage will be restored to the entire 2 mile length of this small cold water watershed. This work will benefit brook trout and other native fish by facilitating movement and maintaining suitable water temperatures throughout the system. Local volunteers will be directly involved in project activities such as temperature monitoring, and macroinvertebrate sampling and identification.
