Improving Fish Passage and Habitat in Manton Cedar Creek

Grant Awarded:

Lake Basin(s):

Michigan

Project Location(s):

Within the Manistee River Watershed in Manton, MI

In partnership with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, the City of Manton and other partners, Conservation Resource Alliance removed the Manton Millpond Dam, which had repeatedly failed State safety inspections.  In addition to removing the dam, the partners  restored one mile of aquatic connectivity including the impounded stream. Riparian habitat was also restored along over .3 miles of stream. The project not only addressed safety concerns, but project activities also improved fish passage and improved the ecology of the entire system by restoring a more-natural flow and temperature regime.
