Holden Property Restoration in Northeast Indiana

Grant Awarded:

Lake Basin(s):

Project Location(s):

Upper Sait Joseph watershed, IN

The Nature Conservancy restored approximately 500 acres of forest in the Upper Saint Joseph watershed–one of the most biologically diverse watersheds in the Great Lakes basin. This reforestation project was completed in conjunction with wetland reconstruction (funded by USFWS) on the same property. This will ultimately result in reduced sediment and nutrients reaching Great Lakes waters, as well as restored groundwater recharge and improved habitat for migratory birds, copperbelly watersnake, and several species of freshwater mussels including the only known population of the federally endangered white cat’s paw pearly mussel.
