Project Location(s):

2.5 mile stretch of the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland in Cuyahoga County, OH

The Cuyahoga River Community Planning Organization is installing habitat structures along industrial ship channel bulkhead in the Cuyahoga River. These structures will help provide resting and foraging habitat needed by fish as they move through the lower reaches of the river. This new habitat initiative is fabricating and installing at least five varieties of innovative fish habitat structures that are  designed to accommodate the needs of fish at various lifecycle stages and to function well in a working industrial shipping channel. Improving in-stream habitat along this section of channel will connect habitat that exists upstream in the natural river with areas of habitat restoration that exist downchannel. This project is contributing to delisting the Beneficial Use Impairments for Loss of Fish and Wildlife Habitat and Degradation of Fish and Wildlife Populations in the Cuyahoga River Area of Concern.
