The City of Ashland, with a variety of local partners, developed a restoration and watershed management plan to address the ecological resources of the Fish Creek watershed including Chequamegon Bay, Kakagon Slough, and the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore. The plan addressed the causes of significant increases in water temperature, nonpoint source loading, and turbidity in the Bay over the last 20 years. This project also restored 3 acres of riparian habitat. Building on other efforts around Lake Superior, this project developed a strategic plan to reestablish riparian and coastal woodlands and wetlands, enhance aquatic and terrestrial habitat, restore eroding bluffs and stream banks, and establish conservation design guidelines aimed at minimizing the affects of future development in the watershed.
