Upper Manistee Riparian Corridor Restoration
Grant Recipient:  Conservation Resource Alliance

Grant Award:  $625,791

Lake Basin:  Michigan

Project Location:  Upper Manistee River watershed in Kalkaska County, MI

Project Description:  The Conservation Resource Alliance and a broad coalition of partners will remove 12 dams and improve a stream road crossing along the North Branch of the Manistee River and Flowing Well Creek. In addition, technical assistance will be provided to private landowners to conduct wetland and upland habitat restoration along the North Branch and its tributaries. These actions will:  1) restore upstream fish passage to 14 stream miles; 2) restore a more-natural flow regime along 20 miles of stream, allowing more-natural nutrient and sediment transport; 3) help restore the native brook trout population; and 4) control invasive species and restore native trees and shrubs on approximately 650 acres of wetland and upland habitat.
