Stewardship Network's Garlic Mustard Challenge
Grant Recipient:  The Stewardship Network

Grant Award:  $15,000

Lake Basin:  Erie, Huron, Michigan, Superior

Project Location:  Areas across the Great Lakes basin, with a focus in Michigan

Project Description:  The Stewardship Network will coordinate the Garlic Mustard Challenge. This event will engage volunteers in the removal of an anticipated 150,000 pounds of garlic mustard across the Great Lakes basin. Removal of garlic mustard from infested areas will improve habitat quality and also reduce the spread into other areas, effectively protecting an estimated 500,000 acres from infestation. In addition, the Challenge will promote awareness of other invasive species in the basin and it increases stewardship capacity by supplying certain tools, such as bags and gloves, and educational materials, like literature and webcasts, for garlic mustard removal efforts across the region.
