Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach Restoration Initiative

Organization: Alliance for the Great Lakes

Lake/River Basin: Lake Michigan

Project Description: Through the Great Lakes Adopt-a-Beach™ restoration initiative, the Alliance will establish an educated core constituency in support of achieving invasive species control and habitat restoration. The Alliance is partnering with private land owners and municipalities to revise the forms, tools and educational materials of its Adopt-a-Beach program to support volunteer assessment and restoration. Once completed, the Alliance will apply the process at individual sites in Illinois to identify restoration opportunities; involve the community; create the natural habitat design; develop a restoration plan; and engage volunteers to implement the plan and maintain the site. The resulting work will be a transferable model to be used along the Great Lakes shoreline.
