Coaster Brook Trout Habitat Restoration

Organization: Superior Watershed Partnership

Lake/River Basin: Lake Superior

Project Description: The Superior Watershed Partnership is restoring 3 miles of Michigan stream habitat in the Salmon Trout River watershed, home to the last remaining naturally reproducing coaster brook trout on the south shore of Lake Superior. Project activities include reducing sediment inputs, improving habitat for coaster brook trout and other aquatic species, collecting baseline habitat data, and increasing public participation through volunteer opportunities. Some project partners include the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Michigan Technological University, Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Trout Unlimited, Northern Michigan University, Marquette County, Longyear Realty Corporation, and the Huron Mountain Club.
